Families in the Greater Boston area are discovering the magic of Montessori education and the empowerment of an African-centered learning environment. At Roxbury Roots Montessori, we are more than a school; we are a community focused on positive self-image work, hands-on learning, and principles of interconnectedness, respect, love, and cooperation.

In keeping this opportunity affordable, we rely on the generous donations of our greater community. This Giving Tuesday, we are seeking to raise $100,000. This money will be used to: provide scholarships for families in need, maintain a beautiful environment, and provide quality education and programming for families.

Why Scholarship Funds are Important:

A single mother making $31,000 annually, at minimum wage, does not qualify for reduced services, such as: EBT/Snap benefits for groceries, childcare subsidies/vouchers, or head start programs for early childhood education. In order for her to work, she needs childcare during the day. Unfortunately, not all childcare is a good option. She is concerned about giving her child the best academic start, while also meeting her social-emotional needs. Most of the time, the programs that she wishes to have her child attend are out of her budget.

Now envision her finding a Montessori school in her community, in your community, in Roxbury. A program that not only offers an amazing and unique philosophy to education, but one that also affirms her child's heritage and culture, giving her child a strong sense of self-worth from a young age. She finds it, and while it is less expensive than most Montessori programs in her state, it is still just out of reach of her monthly budget...

That parent was me 25 years ago--not making enough money to invest in my child's education early on, yet making too much money to qualify for state and local services.

These are the real families that Roxbury Roots Montessori, Inc. wants to service. I  [Renee Jolley] opened this school along with Kendall Allen to serve a variety of families in the Roxbury community. We want our school community to reflect the greater socio-economic community by seeking to serve 50% of families who are able to afford the full tuition, 30% of families with a range of reduced rate options, and 20% of families utilizing vouchers or state-funded slots.

Here is What We Need From Our Angel Funders:

Invest in our scholarship fund for that mother mentioned above, who may need any amount from $1,000-$5,000 in scholarship funding, to meet the gap between her budget and the reduced cost rate of the school.

With your anonymous gift and investment, together we can support area parents by giving them a choice in how and where they educate their children, while staying right here in Roxbury.

Ways to Give:

  1. Make a one time, one child donation of $1,000-$5,000 dollars.

  2. Make a one time, many children donation of $5,000-$10,000 dollars or more.

  3. Sign up for a monthly donation for one child of $100-$300 for (10 months).

That's $1,000 - $3,000 per year or $25 - $75 per week, in tax-deductible donations that can and will make a world of difference from a family at Roxbury Roots Montessori.

Maximize your donation by checking in with your employer to see if your company offers a gift matching donation. Finally, please do spread the word and encourage your circles to open their hearts and give as well.

We truly appreciate your continued support in our efforts and look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Renee & Kendall
