Ester Yu

With a degree in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley, Ester worked as a teacher for juvenile hall and a social worker/program administrator for a nonprofit family support services agency. Ever since marriage, Ester and her husband David were looking for an opportunity to serve cross culturally. Through Children's Hunger Fund (CHF), they learned about ZOE International and fell in love with ZOE's vision of reaching every person with God's love and rescuing and restoring every child from human trafficking through the model of family. After 13 years of working with children and families, Ester and her family moved to Thailand. During her 5 years in Thailand at ZOE, Ester helped to develop ZOE's Counseling Department, training and advising staff about trauma informed care and counseling, developing trauma-informed therapy curriculum, counseling children, and researching and implementing best practices for highly traumatized children and youth.

In February 2017, after Ester and her family returned to Los Angeles, she began working as ZOE's Clinical Supervisor, advising teams both in Thailand and Los Angeles. In November 2017, she began her new role as ZOE's Assistant USA Regional Director. As ZOE builds and develops a specialized therapeutic home and program to serve and care for trafficked children in Los Angeles, Ester hopes to use her valuable experiences in Thailand to help ZOE provide the best care for child trafficking survivors domestically. She is committed to advocating and fighting for children to have access to the resources and support they need to experience lasting change and true healing so they can realize their hopes and dreams.
